How To Find The Perfect Denim Jacket | with Basicbloggerss

For todays post my blogger bestie’s and I have come together to create the ultimate denim jacket guide. If you’re anything like us, denim is a huge staple in your wardrobe; and not just jeans! Denim is so typically seen as bottoms, and I love the idea of bringing it up top. And the easiest way to do that? Denim jackets! You and I both know finding the perfect pieces, regardless of the item, is never easy. But denim jackets have always been specifically hard. There are so many different washes, fits, styles and details, which makes finding the perfect combo a little challenging. Take it from me, I’ve had loads of denim jackets (15 year old me was all about the denim jacket life). But I never loved any of them until now! This past summer I set out to find my perfect denim jacket, and did. So now, I’m sharing how you can too. The three steps/decisions below should help you find exactly what you are looking for!

For the second part of this ultimate denim guide we are sharing four ways to style a denim jacket! Styling posts are my favorite to create and can’t wait for you to see the adorable outfits Marley, Rebecca, Vienna and I have created. And while you’re at it, make sure to check out their Instagram for even more inspiration.

Have you found your perfect denim jacket? What did you think of our ‘how to style’ post on basicbloggerss.com?

Decision One: Which Wash?

The wash (or color) is first and big decision to be made. While the wash is such a simple thing, it can completely change the look. I am a big fan of medium wash denim, as I’m sure you can tell. What I love the most is how it can be so easily dressed up or down. Super light wash is by far more casual, and dark wash, while still being casual (I mean it is denim, how fancy can it get?), is the easiest of all the was options to look more put together with. Keep in mind, while you could easily work all three washes into your style, it is important to pick one that will work with the majority seamlessly blend with the rest of your wardrobe. So does this mean you can never dress up light was denim? Absolutely not! Vienna does it perfectly in our “how to style” over on their site. And guys, her hat is everything; we all need one asap.

Decision 2: What Fit?

Now that you’ve found your wash, lets move onto fit. There is, of course, the standard fit. Which generally comes down to the top of your hips and has an overall good/neutral fit; not too big and not too small. This fit is perfect all year round. Both Marley and Rebecca have the standard fitting denim jacket and styled it perfectly in our “how to style” post over on their site. If you’re looking for a basic denim jacket (nothing wrong with a good basic!), this is your fit! Then there is oversized fit, my personal favorite, which is simply long and looser fitting. Oversized denim jackets are great for fall and winter. All the extra room leave pretty of space for heavier knits. Then finally we have the cropped fit. I find the cropped fit jacket to be perfect in the spring and summer, as they tend to be smaller and lighter!

Decision Three: The Little Details?

The small details always make the look right? While you could stop after the first two steps, this one is always the most fun! It takes a basic denim jacket and adds a personal flare to it. Consider it a way to express yourself! Right now the four biggest trends in denim details are embroidery, embellishments, faux-fur linings and ripped/distressed areas. Whats my favorite you ask? Right now it os a tie between embellishments and faux-fur linings/collars.
