I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I just really love skincare. My love started back in high school when my skin started changing. And by changing I mean breaking out like crazy. My skin is clearer now than it ever has been. I believe I can attest that to this skincare routine and also my improved diet. I mean you are what you eat right? If you want to learn more about skincare you can check out my post on 3 things everyone should know about skincare here!
Step 1: Cleanse
Clean skin is happy skin!!
Makeup Remover: Washing your face at night it one of the most important steps. If you’re not big into skincare, the least you can do is wash and moisturize your face at night. To remove my makeup I use the Simple Cleansing Wipes. I’ve read so much about how cleansing oils are the way to go, but I just can’t find one I love. So for now I’m sticking with these wipes, they get the job done and I’ve yet to have a problem with them. Although I love my wipes, if I’m wearing any waterproof makeup I will go in with the Garnier Micellar Water in the version for waterproof makeup. This helps loosen up any tough makeup before I wipe it off.
Cleanser: Once all of my makeup is off I go in with my all time favorite cleanser, the Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Cleanser. I’ve been using this for well over a year now and truly love it. In fact, I love the whole Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing line. It is the first skincare line, that I’ve tried, that clears my skin without being harsh and drying. I’ll be talking about and linking to the individual products throughout the post, but you can check out the full kit here.
Toner: Lastly, I tone. I know this step isn’t essential to a skincare routine. But when you wear makeup regularly, I think it can be beneficial. This toner from Neutrogena is very simple and gets the job done. It’s mainly cleans the skin of any left over dirt, debris, and makeup.
Step 2: Treat
Treatments are skincare products designed to target specific skin issues. This is everything from serums to peels.
Serum: The serum I reach for day in and day out is the Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Serum. It contains a small amount of willow bark, which naturally contains salicylic acid. This helps promote cell turnover, which is essentially exfoliating without all of the harsh scrubbing. I only use this serum at night, simply because I don’t like to pile on the skincare underneath my makeup during the day.
Acne Treatment: Out of all of these products, I have been using the Kate Somerville Anti Bac Clearing Lotion the longest. This product has benzoyl peroxide in it, which my skin has always reacted very well to. This clearing lotion keeps my skin from getting super oily without drying it out, which I love
These are products I like to mix into my routine a couple times a month. Through some trial and error, I’ve learned that using products like these too often can only cause adverse reactions, a.k.a irritation and breakouts.
Spot Treatment: This spot treatment is both affordable and effective. Since this product has such a high level of benzoyl peroxide, it can be fairly drying if used to frequently. Because of the strength of this product, I save it for the major breakouts. Luckily those breakouts are few and far between with this skincare routine.
Facial Peel: This has really changed the game for me. Over time I’ve realized my skin is not a big fan of being exfoliated with harsh scrubs. This Juice Beauty exfoliating facial peel gives me the same super smooth results without all the rough scrubbing. Because this peel is pretty intense, I only use it 3-4 times a month. As good as it feels to exfoliate, over exfoliation can cause breakouts!
Pore Strips: We both know this is not a vital step in any skincare routine. I just find it to satisfying to see what is being pulled out of my pores. If your curious, these are my favorite ones!
Step 3: Moisturize
Moisturizer: I’ve been using this Juice Beauty Oil-Free Moisturizer for a long time time and really love it. It moisturizes well without being too heavy. I have been thinking about adding a facial oil into my skincare routine, as I’ve heard so many great things about them, but haven’t found one I love enough to mention yet. If you’re curious, I’ve had my eye on this one for a while now and it might just be my next purchase.
Day time eye cream: Although I don’t think it is super necessary to have a separate eye cream for day and night, I have been using this Neutrogena Eye Cream strictly in the morning. This wasn’t exactly the cheapest drugstore product, so I want to use it up before completely switching to my new eye cream. If you’re looking for a simple, light and hydrating eye cream, this would be perfect for you.
Night time eye balm: I picked up this First Aid Beauty Eye Balm back in the fall and it is now one of my favorite products in the skincare routine. It is super thick and hydrating, which is perfect for these cooler months. I tend to have both sensitive and dry skin around my eyes. This product is perfect for both of my concerns. Once I use up my day time eye cream, I’m going to use this both day and night.
Step 4: Protect
SPF: Sunscreen is one of the most important aspects of skincare. You can take great care of your skin, but leaving it exposed to the suns rays will counteract all that goodness you’ve put into it. My favorite is the Supergoop! Mineral Sunscreen. it is the first sunscreen I’ve found that does not cause any breakouts on my skin. It also doesn’t leave me with the typical grease sunscreen feel.
