Today’s post is solely dedicated to achieving big voluminous braids. If you couldn’t tell already, that’s my favorite kind of braid! Although I find it fairly simple to create these massive braids, I know some people have trouble. So I’m here to share my 3 tips to achieving crazy big braids. I am showing you these techniques on a simple dutch braid, but they will work on any type of braid. Click here to learn how to do this braid!
1. ADD SOME TEXTURE
Adding texture to your hair allows the hair have more grip to hold braids. Although silky hair is gorgeous, it doesn’t get along too well with big braids. I like to add texture with a dry shampoo/texturizing spray. Or by simply not brushing my hair. Which might sound weird to some, but it will help your braids hold the shape you want! If you have naturally wavy or curly hair, leaving your hair natural will also create some texture!
2. PULL APART AS YOU GO
This is seriously the real trick to getting crazy big braids. Pull apart each piece as you go; braid a few inches then pull it apart. Continue this until you have finished the braid. With this technique you won’t be left with a super tight braid to pull apart at the end. Which is much easier, trust me.
3. PULL AND PLACE
Once you’ve finished and secured the braid, GENTLY pull on each individual piece and place them how you would like. Once everything is set how you like it you can use some hair spray to hold that exact look. Or if you’re like me you can just leave it and let it get messier throughout the day.
I hope this was helpful to you!
