Summer Haircare & Heatless Waves

Summer Haircare & Heatless Waves

Although there are still a few weeks until the official start of summer, it is never to early to start talking summer hair care. I always use the summer as a time to give my hair a break from heat styling, including my blow dryer. Although I know it is good to give my hair a break, the main reason I do it is simply because I cannot be bothered to heat style my hair everyday when the weather is boiling. Although I definitely still do heat style my hair in the summer, usually every other wash I’ll let it air dry. Plus, wet hair always feels refreshing in the summer heat!

Lets start in the shower. I do rotate my shampoo and conditioner often, but right now I have come back to my all time favorite shampoo and conditioner set. These are from the Soapbox coconut oil line, which I find at Target. But good news, they are available on the Soapbox website for those of you that don’t have access to a Target. This set, more specifically the conditioner, intensely moisturizes your hair. After I use this my hair looks and feels its healthiest. While hair products can’t heal damage, they can mask current damage while preventing further damage.

Now onto how I get my heatless waves! Once out if the shower I wrap my hair in a towel for roughly 10-20 minutes. I don’t do this for a specific amount of time, just long enough that it is not dripping wet. I then use the Healthy Sexy Hair Leave-in Conditioner. I spray this lightly throughout my hair, as I don’t like the feel of a lot of product. I let this soak for a little and then brush out my hair. Following the leave-in conditioner, I evenly distribute roughly a quarter size amount of the Garnier Smooth Air Dry Anti-Frizz Cream. The amount you use will change depending on the length and thickness of your hair. Then lastly I throw my hair into one loose french braid while it drys. It is important that you keep your braid loose; this will create loose textured waves opposed to tight and crimpy waves.

Once my hair is dry and I have un-done my braid, sometimes I like to top off my hair-do with some oil or shine spray. I am currently using the OGX Coconut Oil Weightless Hydrating Mist. This is actually a product I also use when I heat style my hair. It adds a beautiful shine without the weight of a typical oil.
